Big Sky Challenge Hikes 2023

Missoula Big Sky Challenge Hike / Sunday, July 9th, 2023

Brain Injuries can happen to anyone, anytime and anywhere. Financial support raised from this event helps support our mission of creating a better future for those that are impacted by brain injury.

  • Mission Loop (0.8 miles) 9AM start time – ride the Grizzly Chair lift before enjoying a beautiful loop at the top! 
  • Awareness Trail (4 miles) 9AM start time – this single track winds down the front of the mountain along Beargrass Highway.
  • Big Sky Challenge Summit (8 miles) 8:30AM start time – With a 2,000 vertical foot climb both up and down, this steep, challenging hike will take you up Second Thought Trail and down Beargrass Highway!
  • Virtual Challenge – For those unable to hike or attend, you can show your support as a virtual hiker.

  • Mission Loop – This mellow hike begins at the Herron Park trailhead and meanders through the lower forest area before looping back to the trailhead. A wonderful wander in the woods for hikers who are seeking mellow terrain.
  • Awareness Trail – The intermediate hiking trail ascends gently through a shaded forest to the Foy’s Lake Overlook before looping back to the trailhead.
  • Big Sky Challenge Summit –  This challenging hike follows the Notch Trail as it winds through the woods up to the Foy’s Lake Overlook. From there, hikers traverse the Boundary Trail and complete the final trek to the Chase Overlook.
  • Virtual Challenge – for those unable to hike or attend, you can show your support as a virtual hiker. 

Statewide Virtual Puzzle Club

Need Help Piecing Things Back Together? 

The Montana Puzzle Club is our virtual statewide brain injury support group. The group is facilitated by Mr. Jim Mickelson, a TBI survivor and the founder of the Missoula Puzzle Club. We welcome all brain injury survivors, as well as their family members and caregivers. The objective of this support group is to create space for peer support and connection while piecing life back together after brain injury.
